A collaboration between Katie Uther Interior Designs and Marston Architects, the P house is a transformative reimagining of an existing semidetached dwelling which brings the outdoors in. Nestled within a quiet, thickly vegetated street, the steep, north-facing site enjoys both abundant sunlight and water views. As such, the main design strategies involved modifying the circulation and planning of the existing house in order to maximise amenity. Formerly accessed via three levels of external stairs, a new lift at the rear of the garage significantly improves circulation to the entry from street level. On the ground floor, the existing bedrooms have been retained, and a new entrance foyer created by reorienting the stairs to the first floor. The kitchen - formerly at the rear of the dwelling - was relocated to the north, linking it directly to the living and dining areas. With its high volumes and large format sliding doors, the open-plan living space spills seamlessly onto the external deck, creating a greater feeling of space internally and capturing the expansive views beyond. A soft palette of materials complements and enhances the surrounding greenery.
